Ottawa Redblacks cut down roster, announce practice roster to begin 2021 CFL season

After a long three weeks of non stop CFL training camp the Ottawa Redblacks and their front office have made their final decisions to their roster. The team announced 13 cuts following the last training camp practice on Thursday and have since added 5 others to that list while also announcing the practice roster for the 2021 CFL season.

The cuts include receivers Joe Walker, Shannon Smith, Terry Williams, Kendrick Rogers and Wesley Lewis, offensive linemen Nick Buchanan, Jack Kramer, Taylor Tappin, and Josh Dunlop, linebackers D’Juan Hines, Kean Harelimana and Jawuan Johnson, defensive lineman Thomas Grant and defensive backs Jonathan Alston, Marcus Roberson, Ironhead Gallon, Dominique Hatfield and Nate Hamlin. Among that list is 4 Canadians, 14 Americans, and 5 returning Redblacks.

Ottawa has also announced that there will be 16 players on their practice squad to begin the 2021 CFL season. Those players include quarterback Taryn Christion, running backs Justin Davis, receivers Rafael Araujo Lopes, Jerminic Smith, Michael Klukas and Guillermo Villalobos, offensive linemen Ketel Asse and Jamar McGloster, defensive linemen Clement Lebreux, Darius Jackson and Reshaan Davis, linebacker Shaheed Salmon, defensive backs Tony Anderson, Brandin Dandridge and Brad Muhammad as well as kicker Jose Maltos. The list includes 4 Canadians, 9 Americans and 3 globals. 8 of the 16 on the practice squad have been on CFL rosters before, 7 with the Redblacks in 2019.
